Friday Spotlight Races

Today, we take a look at a trio of races from Freehold Raceway and the Open Trot at Tioga Downs.  Freehold’s races include the first leg the NJSS Green Acres for 2yo filly trotters, the NJ Futurity for 2yo pacing fillies, and Charles I Smith Memorial Trot   Tioga Downs Open trot is noted for the fact Check Me out takes on aged trotters in her first effort outside of the 3yo class.

Clearly, things in New Jersey are not what they once was with regards to the NJSS as the preliminary leg for the Green Acres is a mere $7,000; minuscule when compared to other states’ programs.  That being said, it is what it is.  Here are my selections for Freehold’s four races of interest.

3rd Fhld -  Trot - $7,000; NJSS Green Acres – 2yo Fillies
3 – Partys On (Hegdal, 5-1)
5 – Lei Day (Marshall, 6-1)
2 – Vide De Vie (Dube, 5-2)

7th Fhld – Pace – $25,125 NJ Futurity – 2yo Fillies
6 – Panera Hanover (A Miller, 2-1)
1 – True Relfection (Dube, 3-1)
4 – Certified Ideal (Pantaleano, 4-1)

8th Fhld – Trot - $80,00; Charles I Smith Memorial – 3yo Open
7 – New York Muscle (Manzi, 10-1)
2 – Paper Back Lindy (Antonacci, 6-1)
5 – World Cup (Brennan, 3-1)

At Tioga Downs, all eyes will be on the eighth race as Check Me Out draws post nine in her first effort against aged trotters, an Open tilt.  Check Me Out looks to be the class in this race, but the question is do you take her at 2-1 which you likely will not be able to get or do you take a stab and hope for the best?

Quite honestly, I don’t see anyone who can take it to Check Me Out unless someone decides to undertake a kamikaze drive.  Hence, exotics is the way to go in this race.  As such, here are my selections.

8th Tioga – Trot – $18,000; Open I
9 – Check Me Out (Tetrick, 2-1)
8 – Opening Night (Campbell, 7-2)
4 – Scorpion Moon (Morrill, 8-1)
1 – Tac’s Delight (Braden, 9-2)
