Mixed results in driver/trainer stats 2014-2015

Looking at where drivers and trainers rank now, a week into October, for wins and money as compared with this point in the season last year, we see mixed results. Ron Burke’s high end aged stock has disappointed; perhaps that’s one of the reasons he’s about 100 wins and $2.6 million behind his record setting pace of 2014. SRF shows results of loose policy

Nearly fifteen years ago an adoption program, Harness Horse Retirement and Youth Program (HHYR) in Pa. started and closed in a matter of a couple of years. The Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) took on the horses not yet adopted, but did not take on the responsibility of the adoptions already made. All the horses adopted by HHYR were left in their homes without any follow-up, a great concern, but SRF's tight funding prevented them from taking on the task. Today, one of those adopted by HHYR, Horn High Yo, an aged mare, was taken in in emaciated condition by Country Acres Animal Shelter in Homer, NY.

Results of Finals Night at the Meadowlands

JL Cruze made it back to back series' wins with his wire to wire victory in the Charles Singer Memorial on Saturday night at The Meadowlands. Sent off as the 3/5 favorite, JL Cruze would dictate terms from the start, seating Opulent Yankee in the pocket through fractions of 27.4, 56.2 and 1:25.2. From there, the race was on and the top pair sprinted away from the field, but Opulent Yankee had all to do just to keep up, as JL Cruze ripped through a 26.4 final quarter, reaching for the wire in 1:52.1, a lifetime mark. Opulent Yankee never got closer than one length. Blocking The Way checked in third.
